I didn't plan on running for Congress. In fact, it's not something I ever wanted to do. I'm a mom, a wife and a clinical social worker. I grew up poor, which affected how I saw the world. It's why I went into a helping profession but I never thought that it would lead me to running for Congress.

I'm not interested in writing bills or hearing people drone on about policies but we have a problem, America. Over the past decade, there has been a major shift from politics being about policy to politics being about human rights. I've watched Republicans create culture wars by attacking anyone who doesn't look or think like them only to turn around and point the finger across the aisle. It's not normal for politicians to control what happens to someone else's body, bank account or bedroom, yet that's where we are.

Instead of our elected officials delivering on promises to bring down the price of eggs, make housing more affordable or demand multi-billion dollar corporations pay their workers a living wage, we're left with crumbs while they whine about not being able to survive on nearly $200K a year. The average household in America makes $66K a year, so it seems to me that Congresspeople are doing pretty well. You're not supposed to go to Congress to become a millionaire, you're supposed to be in Congress to help people.

Mississippi's 4th Congressional District is currently held by Mike Ezell. Since he's been in office over the past several years he has proven to be a detriment to Mississippi. Not only does he appear to be easily angered and unable to control his temper when confronted but he has voted for bills that will directly hurt Mississippians. 57% of all births in Mississippi are paid for by Medicaid, yet he voted to gut funding. We have a history of dangerous hurricanes that cause catostrophic damage on the coast, yet he supports the gutting of FEMA and NOAA. Without adequate staffing and funding at NOAA we won't get accurate local weather forecasting so hurricane alerts might be late or not come at all. Mississippi doesn't have the money to fund disaster relief so if there is a hurricane how would we rebuild without FEMA? Mike Ezell doesn't seem to care.

But I want to hear from you. I want to represent the true needs of Mississippians because we can't keep robbing Peter to pay Paul to keep the fat cats in Washington happy. You deserve to live comfortably.

My Priorities:

  • Affordable housing
  • Capping insurance company rate increases in all sectors
  • Federal increase in minimum wage
  • Permanent tax cuts for the middle and working class and increase on the top 1%
  • Permanent child tax credit for middle and working class
  • Regulating predatory student loans
  • Restoring sanity to policy by getting the government out of your doctor's office and bedroom
