On January 6, a group of insurrectionists -- acting on behalf of Donald Trump and his Republican enablers -- attacked our capitol, assaulted police officers, and desecrated the American flag. The events of that day served as a reminder that our values, our security, and even our democracy are under attack not by a foreign enemy, but a domestic one.
A similar crisis of values confronts Illinois. State lawmakers accepted payoffs from ComEd to increase prices on Illinois families. Seven of the 50 Chicago council members that were serving just four years ago have since gone through the criminal justice system.
